The San Roque Club is one of Europe's most secluded and exclusive golfing resorts. Two championship golf courses, the Old Course and New Course, are at the heart of the resort which has been home to the European PGA tour qualifing school for many years. This is due to the high standard of the facilities and the quality of the golf courses both in design and conditioning.
Old Course The Old Course was originaly designed by Dave Thomas in 1990, with a redesign to the bunkers by Seve ballesteros recently. The course's tight, sloping fairways are lined by mature cork oak trees, demanding straight, accurate driving. Strategic bunker placement and deceptive water hazards threaten all but the most precise approach shots. The greens are fast, contoured and true, rewarding well-judged putts and punishing anything else. Acknowledged for it's challenge throughout Europe, The Old Course provides a test for the very highest standard of golfer. The closing holes incorporate the resort's shimmering lakes, presenting a finish as beautiful as it is challenging. Playing San Roque is something every golfer will remember.
New Course 2002 saw work begin on the construction of The New Course, a second championship golf course at the San Roque Club. The new world class golf course, was aimed to complement The Old Course, while presenting a different challenge. The designs, by the renowned American course designer Perry Dye, incorporate the contours of the San Roque hills, giving golfers wonderful views to the Guadalquiton River and the Mediterranean Sea beyond. The idea was to create a new course that is a challenge for scratch and low handicap golfers but that is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy. To that end each hole has five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on The Old Course. Water hazards guard four of the greens, also defended by more than a hundred strategic bunkers, which lie in wait for wayward or ambitious drivers. Both courses provide beautiful and challenging holes for golfers of all handicaps.
