Valderrama Golf Course Spain
Club de Golf Valderrama is located in the Sotogrande district of the Costa del Sol and since 1989 has proudly held the top spot on the European golf course rankings. Designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones Snr, one of the most influential golf course architects of the modern age and remodelled ten years later, the par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 metres from the professional tees. No hole of this amazing golf course is less than championship quality but it can still be fully enjoyed by players of all handicaps. The fairways, described by pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe if not the world, are tightly lined with cock oaks. Hitting the fairways is not so much a necessity as hitting the correct side of them, entrances to the particularly small greens are narrow and demand the most accurate of golf shots. Valderrama has been the home of the Volvo Master since 1988, as well as in 1999 and 2000 the World Golf Championships. However the highlight of the Valderrama Golf Club was in 1997 in which it hosted the 32nd Ryder Cup and cementing its place among the world’s greatest golf courses.
