Having survived the predicted thunderstorms that never materialised, the La Sala Golf Classic went ahead as planned and was once again a resounding success. During the course of the proceeding week each four ball announced their team names, there were some good ones; I can’t go on without mentioning the most creative, not to mention topical: Weapons of grass destruction!

September’s competition was an opportunity to play the exclusive Guadalmina’s South course with a 9am shotgun start. First object, to score well, and on arrival at the 6th hole golfers were replenished with a picnic lunch. The longest drive at the 7th hole won by Richard Zuhlke with an impressive drive splitting the fairway. The spoils for nearest the pin on Guadalmina’s feature hole the par three 11th eventually went to Luis Garcia Bermejo with stunning 7 iron to only a few feet.  A bottle of champagne and a handsome rounds of applause was awarded to both victors!

La Sala Bar and Restaurant provided the after golf entertainment where tales of heroic shots and unlucky breaks could be heard all too frequently! The complimentary food and drinks flowed freely and lightening the mood before the prize giving.

The final results showed just what a close run contest it was with only three points covering the top four spots. The team from Buddha Beach in Puerto Banus were beat into second spot with better back-nine by the Galwegians who walked away with dinner for four at La Sala. After heavy scrutinisation of their card and several calls for a recount the beautiful David Marshall trophy went to the team La Sala!!

The next La Sala Golf Classic will be held on the 29th October at the excellent new venue of Valle Romano Golf Course for only 60 Euros per person.
