A sunny and slightly breezy day at the southern end of the Costa del Golf was enjoyed by yet another excellent turnout of 100 players for the first of the two September Sala Group Golf Classic held at Alcaidesa Golf Resort on Saturday the 1st.

The winds blowing from the Straits of Gibraltar certainly proved challenging, but by the time everyone had completed the 18 holes it was the visiting team from Galway, Ireland, The Galwegians who came home first, with a magnificent score of 87 points. Just two points behind in second place with 85 points, were the Flamingos 1 team, with the team from Sierra Park in third also with 85 points, just missing the second spot on countback. So once again a very tight finish!

After the day’s golf, it was back to La Sala Bar & Restaurant, where the now familiar wonderful show of hospitality by the tournament sponsors was enjoyed by all, with the prize-giving taking place around 4.30pm.

The winners received a voucher for dinner for the team at La Sala, together with a bottle of bubbly, whilst the runners-up received a voucher for lunch for the team at La Sala. With the team in 3rd place receiving a bottle of bubbly for their efforts.

The prize for the ladies’ longest drive was won by Marianne Stenkil, whilst James Fothergill won the gents prize. John Gilman managed to scoop the prize for nearest the pin on hole 5, with Nigel Weston claiming the prize for nearest the pin on hole 12. These 4 prize winners received a pair of the very latest Ecco golf shoes, for which we have to thank the sponsorship of Simply Shuttles, Stein Personal & Corporate Planners, the Trusted Trades Association, Direct Property Investments, Marbella Property Management & Marbella Chiropractic.

Thanks to the generosity of all the competitors who entered the “Lost ball guesstimate” competition, together with those bidding on the auction item back at the prize-giving, over 500 euros was raised for the charity we support, Debra, the Butterfly Skin Children’s Association. More information on this wonderful organisation can be found at www.debra.es

Everyone is now eagerly looking forward to the next Sala Group Golf Classic taking place at Atalaya Old course on Saturday the 29th of September.  Once again this tournament will be a shotgun start at 09.00 am , as it is a little further afield than normal.

The Sala Group Golf Classics are now becoming so popular that it is essential you book your team in early to ensure you don’t miss out!
