Another gorgeous sunny day on the Costa del Golf was enjoyed by yet another record turnout of 108 players for the July Sala Group Golf Classic held at La Quinta Golf & Country Club on Saturday the 7th.
After the consecutive tee times format of June’s Summer Classic tournament, it was back to the regular 09.00 shotgun start for this tournament, using the A and C courses.
Some home advantage showed early on, as two of the La Quinta teams got off to flying starts, but by the time everyone had completed the 18 holes it was the team from First Choice Spain, comprising Mike Smith, Steve Godfrey, Graham Hellior and Alan Fuller that emerged victorious, with a magnificent score of 87 points. Just one point behind in second place with 86 points, were the La Quinta 3 team, with their fellow members, La Quinta 5 in third with 82 points. 4th place went to The Itapus 1, with 81 points, and in 5th came Nicholas Dunne Properties with 80 points. So all in all a close run thing!
After the day’s golf, it was back to La Sala Bar & Restaurant, where the now familiar wonderful show of hospitality by the tournament sponsors was enjoyed by all, with the prize-giving taking place around 3.30pm.
The winners received a voucher for dinner for the team at La Sala, together with a bottle of bubbly, whilst the runners-up received a voucher for lunch for the team at La Sala. With the teams in 3rd and 4th place receiving a bottle of bubbly for their efforts.
The prize for the ladies’ longest drive was won by Annette Oidtmann from La Quinta, whilst David Jackson won the gents prize. David Dalton managed to scoop the prize for nearest the pin on hole 2C, with Ernest Culley claiming the prize for nearest the pin on hole 8A. These 4 prize winners received a pair of the very latest Ecco golf shoes, for which we have to thank the sponsorship of Simply Shuttles, Stein Personal & Corporate Planners, the Trusted Trades Association, Direct Property Investments, Marbella Property Management & Marbella Chiropractic.
Thanks to the generosity of all the competitors who entered the “Lost ball guesstimate” competition, together with those bidding on the auction items back at the prize-giving, over 740 euros was raised for the charity we support, Debra, the Butterfly Skin Children’s Association.
