Cabopino Golf Course in the central part of the Costa del Sol, designed by Juan Ligues Creus, was opened in 2001, and is located close to the marina of the same name between Marbella and La Cala de Mijas. The golf course is characterised by the umbrella pines that line the fairways, and has matured into a tricky but exciting challenge. The layout has been described as short and sweet, although Cabopino golf course provides a stiff test for high handicap golfers, who may find some holes a little tight, while lower handicap golfers will be tempted to take some risks with the tee shots, that promise rich rewards. The third hole starts from a dramatically elevated tee, with the fairway and green only a distant spot, fortunately the hole plays much shorter, and a well struck tee shot could reach the green. As with so many golf courses on the Costa del Sol, water plays an important role, and comes into play on more than five holes at Cabopino golf course. Whether staying in Fuengirola or Marbella, this is an easily accessible golf course.
