Cabopino Golf Course designed by Juan Ligues Creus was opened in 2001, located close to the marina of the same name between Marbella and La Cala de Mijas. The course is characterised by the umbrella pines that line the fairways and has matured into a tricky but exciting challenge. The layout has been described as short and sweet, although Cabopino Golf provides a stiff test for high handicap golfers who may find some holes a little tight, while lower handicap golfers will be tempted to take some risks with the tee shots that promise rich rewards. The third hole starts from a dramatically elevated tee with the fairway and green only a dot in the distance, fortunately the hole plays a lot shorter than it looks and a long hitter could reach the green, but be warned the out-of-bounds lurks close by. As with so many golf courses on the Costa del Sol, water plays an important role and comes into play on more than five holes and can make approach shots to the small target greens even more intimidating.
